Bishop Michael C. Barber, SJ invited students throughout the Diocese of Oakland to live out the spiritual and corporal Works of Mercy. The January 18, 2016 edition of The Catholic Voice captured some of these works of Mercy happening at the various Catholic Schools.

"Gift Cards Donated" - Students from St. Felicitas, San Leandro collected gift cards to purchase gifts and foods for the community during the Christmas season.
"Outreach in Fremont" - Third graders from St. Joseph, Fremont collected baby board books to share with disadvantaged children in San Francisco.
"Parishes, Schools, Catholic Worker become Christmas partners" - Oakland Catholic Worker, Catholic Community of Pleasanton Parishes, St. Joseph Basilica in Alameda, St. Lawence O'Toole Elementary, and St. Philip Neri Elementary provided refugee families with Christmas gifts.
"Pupils Aid Prison Ministry" - Students from St. Leander, San Leandro created handprints for the Prison Retreat Ministry, Kairos.
"St. Francis Pupils Donate Bikes" - St. Francis of Assisi, Concord put together bikes for children in the area.
"Learning that Leads to Action" - Bishop O'Dowd student serves adults and children who have a variety of developmental disorders, disabilities, and conditions.
"Saint Mary's College High School Warms Needy" - Saint Mary's College High School collected coats and socks for the annual Advent drive.
"SJND Students Put Their 'Faith in Action'" Saint Joseph Notre Dame teaches English and supports Spanish-Seapkers in learning English as a Second Language at Oakland Catholic Worker.
