"Mercy can never remain indifferent to the suffering of the oppressed, to the cry of those exposed to violence, reduced to slavery, condemned to die. God, however, is not indifferent. He does not look away from human pain. The mercy of God responds to and takes care of the poor, of those who cry out in their despair. God listens and intervenes to save, urging people to be able to hear the groans of the suffering and to work in favor of the oppressed.Let's ask the Lord that in this year of Mercy we also do merciful things; that we open our hearts to reach everyone with the works of mercy, the legacy of mercy that God the Father had for us."
